Great Film: In Hell
BRAVO Van Damme
Van Damme finally crosses the acting line with In Hell.He plays a regular
guy with no martial arts training whatsoever who kills his wife's murderer
when the courts let him off,and is given life without parole in a nasty
Russian prison, where he loses his humanity to survive the day to day hell
that is prison life.
Among the characters are NfL great Lawrence Taylor as Van Damme's Cell-mate
who narrates the film with a quiet intensity.Michael Bailey Smith is
probably the biggest physical threat Van Damme has had since the original
Universal Soldier. And Marnie Alton plays JC's dead wife.
3 times the charm to Ringo Lam and JC pairing up following Maximum Risk and
Replicant.Ringo can get a decent preformance out of JC every time. The fights
here are pretty realistic here. This is more ultimate fighting than flat out
martial arts.Very brutal.
The only bad things about the movie are the low budget.
As for Jean Claude Van Damme? He does his best job ever with in hell
conveying anguish, anger, fustration, and loss.Don't get me wrong. In Hell is
not gonna win an oscar, but people will look at JC twice. This is not his best
movie, but it certainly isn't Death Warrant meets Lock up.More like Midnight
Express in my humble opinion.I would not be surprised if we see him very
soon back in a cinema.
